Good Manufacturing Practices for Craft Brewers are now available from the Brewers Association (BA). The BA quality subcommittee developed this document to help craft brewers comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. Under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), craft brewers are subject to inspection by the FDA and are required to have Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in place.

The resource provides checklists, which mirror FDA inspection documents, but have been adapted to reflect the unique needs of the brewery environment. They have been provided in both .pdf and spreadsheet form to enable brewers to utilize the resource as a written checklist or work directly on their computer or tablet.

“The simple truth is that GMPs will help make your beer better,” said John Mallett of Bell’s Brewery and BA technical committee chair. “The systematic methodology of applying them in the brewery helps to focus on the basics that are the foundation of great brewing.”

The BA is dedicated to increasing overall quality throughout the craft brewing industry. Additional resources can be found in the Quality section of BrewersAssociation.org and within Quality Management: Essential Planning for Breweries, written by Mary Pellettieri and published by Brewers Publications.
