Strong Showing for American Craft Beer at 2024 Australian International Beer Awards

Director of International Relations

Steve is the international relations director at the Brewers Association. In his role, Steve manages the Export Development Program (EDP) which educates international trade and media about the quality and diversity of products offered by American craft brewers and helps member breweries grow their business in international markets. Prior to his role as EDP manager, Steve spent six and a half years as the assistant director of the American Homebrewers Association helping small & independent brewers and homebrew retailers expand their reach among homebrewers. He lives in Boulder, Colo., where he is a homebrewer, Certified BJCP beer judge, and Advanced Cicerone®.

American craft brewers were awarded 102 medals at the 2024 Australian International Beer Awards—the region’s largest annual beer competition. The 2024 competition, run by Melbourne Royal, attracted more than 2,500 beer entries from a record-breaking 400-plus breweries from 23 countries. They were judged by 84 beer experts from around the globe, including 15 international judges from nine countries.

Among the 16 gold, 30 silver, and 54 bronze medals awarded to U.S. brewers, Outer Range Brewing Company won the Champion Trophy for Best New Exhibitor, and Quarter Celtic Brewpub won the Champion Trophy for Best European Style Lager for The Prince of Dort-ness.

The Brewers Association (BA) Export Development Program (EDP) views international competitions as a key mechanism by which to generate publicity for the U.S. craft beer industry and assist EDP subscribers with gaining attention and distribution for their brands in select target markets. As such, the BA covers the cost of a consolidated airfreight shipment to judging sites and entry fees for up to three brands per brewery in select international competitions for its member breweries.
