Join this webinar to hear from professionals about how to create a culture of mental safety for yourself while supporting your team.

In preparation for this BA Collab Hour webinar, participants are encouraged to complete the Known Hazards for People Leaders: The Foundation worksheet. The exercise will introduce some of the topics that will be discussed and set the stage to think critically about how the content is applicable in their lives and workplaces. Participants are invited to prepare questions for our panelists based on this activity.

Whether you are a human resources (HR) professional, business owner, or manager, leading and supporting other people in the workplace can be tiring and thankless work. In this panel discussion we will talk to a group of HR and mental health professionals about known hazards in this work, including loneliness, compassion fatigue, burnout, and more, and how to create a culture of mental safety for yourself while supporting your team. All people leaders are encouraged to join!

The Brewers Association is recognized by Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® recertification activities.

About the Speakers

Derrick Borgmann, Founder & CEO

NW Collab

Derrick Borgmann currently reside in Central Oregon with his wife and Golden Retriever Winston. He is the founder and CEO of a NW Collab a People/HR operations consulting firm. Derrick's background is comprised of 15+ years of hands-on leadership in all areas of HR/People operations, with a current focus on strategic organizational development and agile people strategies that meet all business needs. Derrick is a member of the BA HR Committee.

Holly Haslam, Human Resources Partner

Brewers Association

In April 2022, Holly Haslam, MBA, SHRM-SCP joined the Brewers Association as the organization's first Human Resources (HR) Partner. With a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Substance Abuse Prevention, Education, and Treatment from Central Michigan University, she went on to pursue her master's degree in Business Administration specializing in HR Management at the University of Northern Colorado. Holly serves as a volunteer leader with the Boulder Area HR Association (BAHRA), working with local experts to provide educational content to the Boulder HR community. Holly's experience building out HR functions, employee engagement initiatives, and training and advancement programs led her to specialize in helping small organizations create systems that aid in employee professional development and retention. Holly utilizes the insight and experience she has gained working within small organizations to equip leaders in the craft brewing community with the knowledge and resources needed to take care of their most valuable assets—their people!

Cari Ladd, Program Manager

WellPower

Cari Ladd, Program Manager at WellPower in Denver, Colorado, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years' experience working in Community Mental Health Centers in both New York and Colorado. Two years ago, she was selected to spearhead one of the most innovative new programs in Colorado: a low barrier and immediate online therapy service called TherapyDirect, created to address the stark reality that more people are seeking mental health support than there are clinicians providing services. Cari has made numerous local TV media appearances, created vlogs for local organizations and been interviewed in print and online media discussing a variety of mental health topics including managing stress, compassion fatigue, and the impact of trauma. She has created mental health programs presented throughout the business community, offering education about stress and burnout and teaching practical strategies for creating a culture of well-being in the workplace. Cari has a passion for mental healthcare access advocacy, specifically for underserved populations.

Dee Dee Mendez, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Executive and Employee Champion

Dee Dee Mendez is a part of the Verdant Consulting network and is certified in their Resiliency Training and Psychological Safety Training programs to support mental health and safety in the workplace. She is a diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging executive and employee champion. Dee Dee has twenty years of experience designing human-centered solutions and implementing inclusion initiatives that improve wellbeing, engagement, belonging, morale, and performance. She is very passionate about re-imagining a human-centered human resources profession, where employees are valued as individual souls. Dee Dee is also a certified Feng Shui Master with a BTB Feng Shui Practitioner Certification. With this certification, she has adapted the 5,000 year-old teachings about how to thrive in a stressful world into contemporary and practical personal development tools and wellness techniques for her clients.

Joy Will, Human Resources Director

Joy Will is the Human Resources (HR) Director for Alaskan Brewing Co. She has more than 20 years of experience in HR and the brewing industry with the majority of that time spent at Alaskan Brewing. In her current role, Joy is a member of the Alaskan leadership team overseeing HR and areas of administration. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Craft Beer HR Group, sits on the Brewers Association HR Committee, and is president of the Southeast Alaska Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter. Joy has a passion for guiding individuals to find their purpose, the craft beer industry, and living life Alaskan.
