The Brewers Association (BA) is pleased to announce that Alan Windhausen has joined the Basics of Beer Quality Workshop team as quality trainer. Windhausen will work with current quality instructor Lauren Torres and quality trainer Melissa Antone to conduct eight quality workshops in different regions of the U.S. in 2019.

Prior to joining the Basics of Beer Quality Workshop team at the BA, Windhausen graduated from the Missouri University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and minors in biology and economics. From there, he moved to Alaska to earn a master’s in teaching at the University of Alaska Southeast, working in rural schools while also flying for the Civil Air Patrol, before entering the Master Brewers Program at UC-Davis. Alan has worked in the craft beer industry at Wynkoop Brewing and Hangar 24 Craft Brewing and served as the lead brewer at Pikes Peak Brewing. Alan is currently the Head Brewer at Holidaily Brewing Company, Colorado’s dedicated gluten-free brewery. In every role, he has worked to enhance the culture of quality and expand the brewery’s quality programs.

“Beer, science, and teaching have always been my driving passions,” said Windhausen. “I am very excited to combine them by joining this team of exceptional educators and quality assurance professionals. I look forward to helping bring this valuable laboratory experience to BA members across the country.”

The Basics of Beer Quality Workshop is a full-day, hands-on class that covers fundamentals of brewing microbiology and physical analysis commonly used for quality assurance in small breweries. Each workshop is hosted by a craft brewery or university, and allows attendees to interact directly with equipment and materials with the guidance of experienced instructors.
