As part of its mission to increase safety awareness, the Brewers Association (BA) has added a new lesson to the Online Brewery Safety Training.

The new lesson addresses grain handling with a focus on all aspects of unloading, storage, milling and transfer of grain products in the brewery environment. The content of the grain handling course compliments the existing lessons that cover the production process common to most breweries.

The Online Brewery Safety Training responds to the need for occupational safety and health (OSH) training in craft brewing. The training focuses on the specific tasks that are performed in a brewery. This task based approach has the potential to allow employees to understand how to apply the principles of each specific OSH issue and to enhance their ability to recognize their ability to recognize the hazards in their job tasks.

The course is free, and registration is quick and easy, requiring only a name and an e-mail. When talking a course, users can stop and start at any time. Individual courses can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the topic. Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate is issued for the employee’s or employer’s records.

The content of the courses was created by Grand Valley State University in conjunction with the Brewers Association. The BA welcomes your comments regarding the existing training and your suggestions for additional topics to address in the future. Participants can provide comments through a feedback portal within each lesson, or by contacting the Brewers Association.
