Brewers Association (BA) Quality Ambassador Neil Witte delivered the keynote address to the New Mexico Brewers Guild conference, held in Albuquerque, NM on March 31st. Central New Mexico Community College hosted the day-long event that was attended by over 100 brewers from around the state.

After guild business led by Director John Gozigian and a state legislative update from La Cumbre’s Jeff Erway, Neil addressed the group on the subject of quality. His talk was aimed at motivating brewers to work together as a community to continually improve their craft, utilize quality resources the BA has developed for craft brewers and expand their definition of what constitutes a comprehensive quality program.

After Neil’s talk, the group split into two groups by presentation track. The technical brewing track included presentations on hops from Stan Hieronymus and Hopsteiner’s Jay Prahl, in addition to a lecture on lactic acid by Josh Armagost of the Brewing Science Institute. The administration and business operations track included talks on branding and trademarks, tax compliance, and human resources, led by experts in the respective fields. Also featured was an operations roundtable led by Tractor Brewing’s Skye Devore. The day convened with a social at Monks’ Corner Taproom in downtown Albuquerque.
