U.S. Senator Kirk Rallies for Small Brewer Tax Reduction

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL), a recent co-sponsor of the Small BREW Act, stopped by Revolution Brewing in Chicago to rally support for this proposed excise tax reduction legislation.

Currently, a small brewer that produces less than 2 million barrels of beer per year is eligible to pay $7.00 per barrel on the first 60,000 barrels produced each year. The proposed legislation would adjust this rate to $3.50 per barrel and would provide eligible breweries with approximately $28 million in savings per year (based on 2012 data).

According to Senator Kirk “The Small BREW Act represents an opportunity to unleash tremendous potential for entrepreneurship.”

Senator Kirk’s support of this legislation will help breweries in Illinois and across the country provide even more manufacturing jobs and therefore boost local economies.
