The European Beer Star competition is one of the most recognized beer competitions in the world, committed to the traditional European art of brewing. The competition evaluates the beers on the basis of purely sensory criteria and is limited to beer categories, which originate in Europe (51). Fifty-four Brewers Association Export Development Program members sent 266 beers for the 2013 European Beer Star competition. Twenty-three BA EDP members won 36 awards in 22 different categories in the competition. Overall in the European Beer Star competition, there were 1,512 beers entered from 45 countries. This is an increase of 11% compared to the successful prior year – 5 % increase in beers from Germany, 15% in international beers.
