What’s your current position at your brewery?

I am founder and president of The Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, Pa.

What’s new at The Church Brew Works and what’s next on the horizon?

On the brewing end, we are adding two more 15 bbl tanks for aging our Brett beers. We have taken delivery and plan to install a Palmer canning line and bring out two new beers in cans, Saaz Monster and Ambrosia Ale.

How long have you served on the BA board of directors?

I am a greenhorn, having started my term in February 2017. It is a bit nostalgic as I went to school in Boulder. It’s great seeing the growth of the university, the town, and the Brewers Association.

What’s it like to serve on the board so far?

The first set of meetings was very rewarding and enjoyable. The members of the board are very passionate and bring in lots of skill sets besides being just brewery operators. There is constant communication among the members, showing a lot of dedication. The BA staff also did a great job orienting the other new board members including Roxanne [Westendorf], Tom [McCormick], and Jim [Koch].

What challenges and satisfactions have you met during your board service?

Joining the board will entail embracing more relationship-building with our federal politicians in addition to relationships with our state officials. We have great Pennsylvania politicians who like and support craft brewers and I hope to see cooperative governance on a national level to help our industry grow.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery and the BA board?

I like to spend time with my family and unwind with kitesurf vacations, skiing, mountain biking, and playing soccer. We also like to forage for mushrooms and garden once the weather breaks.
