What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?
My current role at Weathered Souls Brewing Co. in San Antonio, Texas is head brewer, formulating recipes, brewing specialty beers and our barrel program, among many other things. I got started in the craft beer brewing industry first by volunteering at Mraz Brewing Company in El Dorado Hills, Calif. From there, I relocated to San Antonio and started homebrewing and bringing beers to local breweries. One of the local breweries offered me an assistant brewer position and the rest is history.

What’s new at Weathered Souls?
We are in the middle of rebranding. With the help of Little Big Brands, we will be making some changes after our 4-year anniversary. Aside from that, we will be starting national distribution in late February 2021.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?
The best part of being in the craft brewing industry is the camaraderie and the ability to meet new people with like minded personalities and interests. I have made more friends in the brewing industry than I have in years.

Name a favorite food and beer pairing.
My favorite beer and food pairing would have to be hot wings and a west coast IPA. The hops play perfectly with the spices of the sauces, but also have the ability to quench your thirst and provide those fruity characteristics that alleviate the burn.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?
My biggest accomplishment unrelated to brewing would have to be the raising my two daughters. Even as young as they are, they are growing up to be proud, self aware young ladies, which is important in our current climate.

What’s your favorite beer from another brewery?
The recent beer that blew me away was Ology Brewing Co.’s Irrefutable Logic. My favorite every day drinker from another brewery would be the Helles from Bierstadt Lagerhaus.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?
I like to spend my time away from the brewery with my children and to read comics. Self reflecting and meditation is also important.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?
Hawaii. To be able to enjoy some of the local beer while having an amazing view of the ocean was definitely the most memorable so far.
