What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?
I am president and founder of Coelacanth Brewing Company in Norfolk, Va. I’ve been involved in the beer, wine, and spirits industry for over 15 years as a business owner, consultant, distiller, importer, brewer, writer, critic, and judge, and am a graduate of the American Brewers Guild brewing program. I have been a Virginia Craft Brewers Guild committee member since 2014, and currently serve as vice-chairman.

Still banging out award-winning, unique twists on classic styles.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?
The creative process and the camaraderie.

Seafood and Coelia Rosemary Lemon Ale.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?
Serving as vice-chair of the Virginia guild.

What’s your favorite beer from another brewery?
Anything from Founders.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?
Do people get to do that?

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?
I’ve had the pleasure of having local beers on every continent except Antarctica. Always exciting.
