What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?
I’m the owner and head brewer at Porter Brewing Co. in Redmond, Ore. I started out homebrewing about 10 years ago. My wife and I used to dream of one day opening a brewery, but we weren’t sure if that dream would ever come to fruition until we moved to Central Oregon. We realized that with all the breweries around, we were having a difficult time finding our favorite beers: cask ales. We decided to open Central Oregon’s first and only all-cask brewery.
What’s new at Porter Brewing Co.?
We opened Porter Brewing in late September 2018 and have received great feedback from the community. While cask ale isn’t anything new, it’s a new experience for much of the community here.
What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?
There are so many other craft breweries around our area, even just between Bend and Redmond. One of our favorite things so far has been getting to know all of the other brewers and brewery owners. It is an incredibly fun, supportive, and inclusive community. We feel grateful to be a part of it.
Name a favorite food and beer pairing.
Best bitter with fish and chips.
What’s your favorite beer from another brewery?
Fuller’s ESB. In my opinion, it’s the best ESB out there.
What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?
We have two young kids, Porter (the brewery’s namesake) and Violet. We love to get outside, take them camping and hiking, and enjoy the outdoors. This is Central Oregon, after all.
