On September 30, 2022, the U.S. Senate passed the Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, legislation that, once signed by the President, will keep the federal government open through December 16, 2022.
In addition to extending the time that the federal government has to negotiate the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, the bill also provides the Department of the Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) $14.9 million to establish and implement the import claims program from the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (CBMTRA), the same legislation which passed in 2020 that made the recalibrated excise taxes for small and independent breweries permanent.
Both the House and Senate are expected to be in their states and congressional districts through the midterm elections on November 8, and will return for a lame duck session in mid-November.
