On February 22nd Rep. Dave Camp, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, met with brewery owners from his district. The meeting was hosted by owner Keith Lawrence of Midland Brewing Company. Other breweries represented at the meeting were Right Brain Brewery, Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company, Mountain Town Station, and New Holland Brewery. The discussion was centered around the Small BREW Act, HR 1236, and its impact on the Michigan Brewing Industry.
Mr. Lawrence guided Rep. Camp on a tour of the brewery and explained that with the Federal Excise Tax Recalibration, breweries would be able to expand production. Midland brewery would purchase a new fermenter and hire two new employees.
Previous to Rep. Camp’s visit, Debbie Stabenow, a Co-Sponsor of the corresponding Senate Federal Excise Tax Reduction Bill, S 534, toured Blackrocks, another Michigan Brewery.
