The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture have released the 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The guidelines include a section devoted to alcohol, specifically addressing, among other issues, moderate consumption with an accompanying drink-equivalents table that recognizes the variability of alcohol content across beverage types and contains the statement “Drink-equivalents are not intended to serve as a standard drink definition for regulatory purposes.”
