Kris Spaulding Named as Brewers Association Technical Committee Co-Chair

Kris Spaulding, owner and president of Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been selected to serve as co-chair of the Brewers Association (BA) Technical Committee. As co-chair, Spaulding will work with current Technical Committee chair Jason Perkins of Allagash Brewing Company in Maine to provide strategic direction and oversight to for the BA’s six technical subcommittees.

Kris co-founded Brewery Vivant in 2010 and continues to own the brewery with Jason Spaulding. In 2012, the brewery was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification (LEED – Silver). In 2014, Brewery Vivant became a certified B Corporation, meeting “rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”

“I am excited to join the Technical Committee and bring my passion for sustainability and my experience as a brewpub owner onto that leadership team,” Spaulding said. “The committee creates an impressive amount of resources, guidance and tools. I look forward to working with the other members to continue to bring so much value to BA members.”

Perkins added, “I am excited to have Kris join me as co-chair of the Technical Committee. Kris has been a long advocate for sustainable brewing and operational practices and brings valuable expertise to the committee leadership.”

Spaulding currently serves as a pub brewery representative on the BA Board of Directors and as co-chair of the Brewpubs Committee. She also has prior experience in the Technical Committee structure, having served as a member of the Sustainability Subcommittee.

Spaulding replaces Larry Horwitz, head of brewing at Ten20 Craft Brewery in Louisville, Kentucky, as Technical Committee co-chair. The Brewers Association would like to extend their gratitude for Larry’s guidance and leadership and his ongoing contributions to the craft brewing community.
