Brewery Skeptics: Overcoming Challenges of Your Local Government and Community

CBC Online 2020
Speakers: Julie Wartell

Zoning, Parking, Crime, Noise… we’ve all heard these reasons why a city or community does not want another alcohol establishment. This session covers identifying these governmental and community skeptics, knowing the research about the positive impacts that breweries have had on communities, and creating a strategy to overcome these skeptics. Research on economic impacts, community revitalization and crime (or lack thereof) are discussed, including a survey of breweries, the challenges they faced, and how they surmounted them. Walk away with tools to more successfully move into cities and communities that may have initially doubted the positive impact of craft breweries.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be able to identify your skeptics
  • Know the research around economic impact, community revitalization, and crime
  • Conduct your own research about your local environment
  • Create a strategy for overcoming the skeptics and challenges
