What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I’m the owner [of Silver Moon Brewing in Bend, Ore.]. I started homebrewing in 1995 in Vermont. The hobby stuck, and when I moved to Bend in 1998, I purchased the brewing supply business here. In 2000, I got my brewers license and started Silver Moon Brewing.

What’s new at your brewery?

Beer! We’re rolling out our new HOP FuRY IPA, and Dark Side Stout just won a gold medal at GABF.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

It’s a fast moving, friendly industry where everyone’s competing but helping each other as well. The result is insanely good beers and plenty to choose from.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

Mountain bike and ski.

What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?

Badlands ESB and our Brisket Royale deli sandwich.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

My new family. My wife and I have a beautiful eight-month-old little girl, Eve. I wanted to name her Porter, but marriage is a compromise.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

BridgePort Porter.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

I really enjoyed visiting Pelican Brewery on the Oregon coast and sipping their IPA while watching the sun set over the ocean. Their beer is great and the setting is pretty special.
