What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am general manager and partner at Great Northern Brewing Co. [in Whitefish, Mont.] My passion for craft beer began in my dorm room at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. I pursed the industry upon graduation, and eventually landed a management position at Great Northern. I’ve spent the past eight-and-a-half years reviving and growing Great Northern into a leading Montana brewery.

What’s new at Great Northern?

We continue to grow in the state of Montana, and we’re also growing significantly in Idaho, eastern Washington, and North Dakota.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

I rarely feel like I’m “going to work.” I absolutely love my career and our product. Beer is a celebration, and I feel like every day of work at the brewery is a celebration, too.

Name a favorite food and beer pairing.

I love spicy Thai food and a Belgian saison.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

Marrying the love of my life and growing a family with her. Our two boys, George and Charley, are a gift from God.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

Westmalle Dubbel Trappist Ale.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

Hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening, camping, and skiing.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

I took a week-long trip through Belgium with my family. We stopped at every brewery and beer destination along the way. It was incredible.
