What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I’m the head brewer and proprietor for Public House Brewing Company in Rolla, Mo.  Amateur brewing has been in my family for over 25 years.  My father is a homebrewer and I picked up the craft a little over 10 years ago.  Like so many of us, opening a brewpub started as a bunch of talks over beers with my best friend and remained nothing more than talk until three years ago, when we decided to put our money where our mouths are and open the Public House.

What’s new at Public House?

Everything from the tanks to the beers.  We opened with three beers: our Bird and Baby Mild, an APA, and our Revelations Stout.  At midnight on New Years, we released our fourth beer, a Kolsch.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

The overall camaraderie.  The support and help that we’ve received from other brewers and vendors is unexpectedly delightful.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

I’m a big music nut and have recently gotten back into photography.

What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?

Anything spicy like a Cajun dish or chili with a pale ale or an IPA .

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

Finding the love of my life in my best friend, my wife Beth Stacy.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

Right now, my favorite is Bell’s Two Hearted.  I’m very seasonally oriented, so it’s getting ready to change again.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

Weston, Mo., has the oldest brewery west of the Hudson River.  My grandparents live around there and I’ve driven by a thousand times before.  It wasn’t until about five or six years ago when I discovered the brewery.  Weston Brewery has more aesthetic character in one square foot than any place I’ve ever been.  My favorites were their Cream Stout and their Festival Ale, an Irish-style brown.
