What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I currently am the brewer at Rough Draft Brewing Company [in San Diego, Calif.]. I started my professional brewing career working as a keg line operator at Stone Brewing Company.

What’s new at Rough Draft?

As of August  1, we released our first bourbon barrel-aged beer. We took our Freudian Sip Strong Ale and aged it in various first-use bourbon barrels.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

I think one of the most amazing things about being a part of the craft beer industry, especially in San Diego, is that the city and its citizens have fully embraced the craft beer movement. We have more than 50 licensed and operating breweries in San Diego with another 25 on the way by next year.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

I usually spend my time surfing and homebrewing with one of my best friends.

What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?

I love anything spicy so I would have to say any type of Mexican food or a good spicy pizza paired with a great, hoppy IPA!

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to brewing?

Completing my bachelor’s degree while working full-time.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

I can never choose a favorite beer but I am always up for a great IPA from breweries such as Alpine, Pizza Port, Ballast Point, and many others!

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

I spent three months traveling and working in Europe and although I was not as into beer as I am now, I definitely enjoyed many fresh, local brews while in Ireland, Germany, and Czech Republic.
