The BA Export Development Program is inviting EDP members to send beer samples for a variety of promotional and educational events being planned for Brazil in June.  Samples will be purchased for the events (one pallet per participating brewery).  At this time, we are simply looking to determine a list of interested breweries.  Please read on for additional information.  This opportunity is for BA EDP members only.

If you are not a BA Export Development Program member and would like to participate in this event, please contact Mark Snyder today!

Deadline for Response:  February 18, 2013.  Please email Mark Snyder (mark@brewersassociation.org) if you would like to participate in this Brazil EDP activity.

Event:  Brasil Brau Trade Show, Conference, and Side Events
Website: http://www.brasilbrau.com.br/en/
Dates:  June 25-27, 2013

EDP Activity Description
Booth: The BA EDP plans to participate in Brasil Brau in June.  The BA has been allocated a portion of booth space within a larger space secured by Tarantino Multibeer, one of the leading American craft beer importers in Brazil.  The BA will have one open side of that booth under generic BA EDP signage.  From there, EDP representatives will pour samples of EDP member beers not affiliated with an importer in Brazil.  Those samples must be purchased at the booth but there will also be a VIP area for customers, bar, restaurants, and journalist with free tasting.

Seminars: The BA is working with the organizers of Brasil Brau to schedule a number of seminars related to American craft beer during the conference that takes place alongside the trade show.  EDP member breweries with beer in the Brazilian market have been invited down to participate in the show and deliver these seminars.  A final list of seminars has not yet been determined, but the BA has proposed the following topics and Brasil Brau is likely to accept them:

• The BA and US brewing industry history
• Sustainable brewing
• The Importance of Innovation
• American hop varieties
• Beer education – the need and opportunities

Seminars are also being scheduled with two Brazilian sommelier associations that offer beer courses for students as well.

Side Events: American craft beer promotions are being organized through bars and restaurants in Sao Paolo and through specialty retailers before, during, and after Brau to provide added exposure for the US industry.

Samples to be Purchased:  Gilberto Tarantino (Tarantino Multibeer) is prepared to purchase samples from EDP members that wish to participate in these events regardless of whether his company is the brewery’s designated representative in the market.  Only purchased samples can be used in the promotional events outside of Brau. Tarantino is looking to purchase:
• One pallet per participating brewery
• No more than 2-3 labels included in the pallet (lab certification will be needed per label and so this limit will reduce costs)

Additional Sample Details:  A Certificate of Analysis (lab analysis) performed by a US laboratory certified by the TTB and by the Brazilian government will need to accompany any beers shipped to Brazil.  The BA will provide participating breweries with instructions to obtain the lab analysis, including a list of eligible laboratories.  The cost is generally a few hundred dollars per label and this cost can be included in the sample purchase price provided to Tarantino.

Shipping details:  Since these samples are to be purchased, the BA will not consolidate the shipment at its Colorado warehouse.  Instead, samples will be consolidated by JR Hillebrand at their alcohol distribution warehouse in Napa, California.  Specifically, samples will be consolidated at:
California Wine Transport
660 Airpark Road
Napa, CA 94558

Next Steps/Action Required: At this point, the EDP first wants to assemble the list of participating breweries and the labels they wish to include in the pallet to be purchased by Tarantino.  Please include an FOB price quotation per label from Napa, California.  Once we have a full list of breweries, EDP staff will supply additional information on lab analysis requirements and further details on shipping deadlines.
