The World Beer Cup awards presentation and dinner was recreated for the European brewing community at the German National Museum in Nürnberg on a warm spring day last week. Attendees began the evening with a guided tour through the current exhibition, “The Young Albrecht Dürer”.
As in San Diego, the ceremony began with a five course meal served with five beers. The special selection of beers paired with the meal included Nurnberger Pils, Brew Secco from Austria, Champion Bitter from Austria, Meantime IPA from London, Brewdog Hops Kill from Scotland, culminating with an 18 month and 8 year old Samichlaus Helles from Austria (14% abv) sampled with strawberries and bavarian crème for dessert.
Recipients celebrated the awards received, including Brauerei Michael Plank, winner of the award for Brewers Association World Beer Cup 2012 Champion Brewery and Brewmaster, Small Brewing Company.
Charlie Papzian, President of the Brewers Association, attended the ceremony in Nürnberg. He states, “Like the paintings of Albrecht Dürer, the winners of the World Beer Cup were Masterpieces of the Brewers Art and representative of their local cultures and their beer drinker’s love of the beers made in local communities throughout the world”.
