Ensuring Safety During Brewery Tours

Providing public tours can be an engaging way to tell customers your story and highlight your unique processes. However, the well-being of the guests must be top priority to ensure that tours are successful and safe. Preparing the brewery and production floor for tours can also be a chance to review potential hazards and make it safer for everyone.

Learn about the Brewers Association’s (BA) brewery tour safety guidance resource and hear some practical tips to ensure the safety of guests, guides, and production staff from two of the BA’s Safety Subcommittee members. Communication between brewing staff and tour guides can go a long way towards preventing interruptions in production and unnecessary risk.

Rachel Bell, Safety Manager

Kiitos Brewing

Rachel Bell got her start at Monday Night Brewing where she worked in sales, event management, packaging, and eventually safety. Simultaneously, she received an masters in Anthropology and wrote a thesis titled, "Recreating Ancient Beers in a Modern Brewery." After moving to Utah, Rachel joined Kiitos Brewing, where she helps with marketing, community partnerships, operations, and safety, all on top of managing the taproom. She also helped create a safety committee within the Utah Brewers Guild and is a member of the Utah Pink Boots chapter.

Chris LaPierre

Chris LaPierre, Head Brewer

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Chris LaPierre has been a professional brewer since 1997, working with Harpoon Brewery and Dock Street Brewpub before coming to Iron Hill sixteen years ago. Chris, who lives in Philadelphia, has worked as head brewer in a variety of Iron Hill locations and currently has company-wide responsibilities as senior head brewer. The safety of staff and patrons has always been a top priority for Chris, and he was instrumental in creating Iron Hill's first safety committee.
