Flensburg, Germany – Flensburger Brewery, Germany’s most northern swing-top brewery and an iconic institution since 1888, has announced a new partnership with Centec to implement advanced dealcoholization technology. This collaboration aims to enhance the production of high-quality non-alcoholic beers, maintaining the distinctive fresh taste that Flensburger beers are known for.
Centec, renowned for its expertise in gentle countercurrent distillation, has been selected to supply the DeAlcoTec plant. The project goals include producing non-alcoholic beers with alcohol content ranging from 0.0% abv to 0.5% abv, increasing output to 30 hl/h, recovering evaporated alcohol with a concentration greater than 70%, and optimizing energy consumption.
The dealcoholization technology from Centec is designed to preserve the aroma of the beer while removing alcohol at low temperatures and pressures. The custom-designed plant for Flensburger Brewery integrates several process steps, including product deaeration, dealcoholization, flash pasteurization, and carbonization of the non-alcoholic beer, as well as the concentration, measurement, and storage of the removed alcohol.
A unique feature of the DeAlcoTec plant is the installation of three successive dealcoholization columns, tailored to fit the brewery’s low ceiling height. This innovation underscores Centec’s commitment to meeting customer-specific requirements.
Mr. Enes Erisgen, Production Manager at the Flensburger Brewery, summarizes the project as follows: “With the new dealcoholization plant from Centec, our brewery was able to take some important steps for the future. A particular focus of the project was, of course, to be able to reproduce the quality of Flensburger “Frei” perfectly on the new plant, as process technology changes have an impact on production despite the fact that the process is similar. Looking back, product tests and consumer opinions show that this has been achieved. Furthermore, the increase in production output has ensured the long-term supply capability of non-alcoholic products, which are increasingly in demand.”
