Coleman Greenleaf Farms Wins Coveted ‘Cascade Cup’
Oregon hop grower wins competition showcasing the best Cascade Hops.
Coronado, California – Oregon hop grower Todd Koch of St. Paul, Oregon was awarded the coveted ‘Cascade Cup’ at the American Hop Convention in Cornado, California on January 23, 2025. Koch’s hops were selected as the best from dozens of samples submitted by his peers in the annual contest sponsored by the Hop Quality Group.
Each year, hop growers from across the country submit their best sample of Cascade variety hops which are then evaluated by a panel of judges made up of US craft brewers. Koch submitted his Cascade hops, grown on his family farm in St. Paul, Oregon which were chosen as the winning hops for the 2024 crop year. This is the 2nd time that Coleman Greenleaf Farms has earned this prestigious honor, first winning the Cascade Cup in 2021. Since the competition’s inception thirteen years ago, Koch’s hops have placed in the top 3, five times.
Koch was honored to be recognized and said, “The award cannot be won without all the hard work from the whole team on the farm. From the spring training crew to finishing the grind at harvest, I want to thank all the employees, local support services, and the management/ownership group. It is nice to bring this award back to the Willamette Valley and showcase our state’s hop industry.” Previous Oregon winners include B&D Farms of St. Paul and Sodbuster Farms of Salem.
Founded in 1964, the Oregon Hop Commission is dedicated to enhancing the Oregon hop industry by expanding opportunities for growth through research, education and promotion. The Commission is completely grower-funded and is facilitated by seven growers, one dealer/handler, and one public member. Oregon is the third largest hop-producing state in the country with a farmgate value of $85.1 million.
