In August 2024, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) proposed a new standard: Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. The standard would require employers to create a plan to evaluate and control heat hazards in the workplace, and would set forth employer obligations and necessary measures to effectively protect employees from hazardous heat.

On Tuesday, the Brewers Association (BA) submitted comments addressing specific concerns arising from the proposed regulations. The BA recognizes the importance of minimizing heat-related injury and illness at the workplace and hopes that OSHA will draft a final rule that avoids placing undue burdens on America’s small and independent breweries.

While the comment period closes today, OSHA’s proposed heat injury standard may face substantial alternations or may be abandoned completely by the incoming administration.
