The Brussels Beer Challenge celebrated its 11th anniversary during the awards ceremony for the 2022 competition in Ghent, Belgium last month. More than 1,800 beers from across the globe were evaluated by a panel of 85 international beer experts, and American craft brewers once again displayed a mastery in brewing both classic and innovative beer styles.

In total, American craft brewers won 25 awards including seven gold, nine silver, and nine bronze medals across 20 categories. Fremont Brewing Company’s Legend Cold IPA was awarded “Best American Beer of the Competition.”

The competition, which became the first professional beer competition in Belgium in 2012, has since become one of the world’s most recognized beer competitions.

The Brewers Association (BA) Export Development Program (EDP) sees international competitions as a key mechanism by which to generate publicity for the U.S. craft beer industry and assist EDP subscribers with gaining attention and distribution for their brands in select target markets. As such, the BA covers the cost of a consolidated airfreight shipment to each competition and covers the entry fee for up to three brands per brewery in select international competitions for its member breweries.
