Export Development Program Participates in Copa Cervezas de América

Director of International Relations

Steve is the international relations director at the Brewers Association. In his role, Steve manages the Export Development Program (EDP) which educates international trade and media about the quality and diversity of products offered by American craft brewers and helps member breweries grow their business in international markets. Prior to his role as EDP manager, Steve spent six and a half years as the assistant director of the American Homebrewers Association helping small & independent brewers and homebrew retailers expand their reach among homebrewers. He lives in Boulder, Colo., where he is a homebrewer, Certified BJCP beer judge, and Advanced Cicerone®.

The Brewers Association (BA) Export Development Program (EDP) works to inform member breweries about opportunities to sell and promote their beers in targeted global markets, educate international trade and media about proper storage and care for craft beer as well as the collective quality and diversity of styles created by small and independent American craft brewers.

The Copa Cervezas de América (CCA) competition takes place in Valparaiso, Chile. CCA is the largest international beer competition in South America, drawing in over 1,800 beer entries from 459 breweries in 16 different countries this year. Leading up to the show, the EDP coordinated a shipment of 92 entries from 19 member breweries to participate in the competition—this included covering their entry fees, facilitating cold storage, and handling airfreight shipping.

EDP manager Steve Parr was invited to serve as one of the judges for the competition and participate in CCA’s industry conference. Steve also took the opportunity to meet with FAS staff, conduct retail site visits, and scout possible locations for future EDP promotional and educational events in the market.
