The Brewers Association Export Development Program participated in the 2011 Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards.
The Brewers Association Export Development Program (EDP), now in its eight successful year is designed to promote US Craft Beers in targeted global markets through trade missions, shows and competitions such as the 2011 BrewNZ Beer Awards competition.
The Awards are run by the Brewers Guild of New Zealand now in its tenth year, which represents the majority of breweries in New Zealand. The Brew New Zealand Beer Awards are one of the pre-eminent showcases for premium beer and brewing excellence in the Asia Pacific Region. Held in Wellington each year, the Brew New Zealand Competition, New Zealand’s most prestigious beer event, has become firmly established on the international brewing calendar as a renowned and recognized barometer of diversity in beer brewing across the world.
With 465 entries in 2011, the Awards drew the biggest entry tally since their inception in 2001, up from 446 in 2010 and 348 in 2009. To ensure a level playing field, each beer was blind tasted by a group of judges against recognized standards in each of the 90 style categories. Winners were awarded gold, silver or bronze by how closely their beer achieved the desired style traits. A trophy has also awarded to the best beer in each of the 18 classes.
This year, 19 Brewers Association Export Development Program members sent 111 beer entries into this competition. Judging took place in July 2011 and the BA EDP will recognize the winners at an awards ceremony at the 2012 Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego.
