The 2019 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) have been posted, and once again American craft breweries brought home an abundance of medals and trophies.

Hosted in Melbourne each year by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), AIBA has become firmly established on the international brewing calendar as a renowned and recognized barometer of diversity and quality in beer brewing across the world.

U.S. brewers were recognized for more than 20 gold, 39 silver, and 69 bronze-winning entries, in addition to several Champion and Major trophies. This year, AIBA attracted nearly 2,600 entries from 400 breweries in more than 26 countries.

The Brewers Association’s (BA) Export Development Program (EDP) facilitated the participation and consolidated shipment of 184 entries from 41 member breweries to the 2019 competition. In addition to the numerous gold, silver, and bronze awards won by U.S. brewers, the following EDP members and their beers were recognized as trophy winners in this year’s AIBA:

• Champion International Beer: Feral One, Firestone Walker Brewing Co.
• Best New Exhibitor: Breakside Brewery
• Best Belgian/French Style Ale: Feral One, Firestone Walker Brewing Co.
• Best Wood & Barrel-Aged Beer: Captain of the Coast, Pelican Brewing Company
• Best Specialty Beer: Maui Express, Denver Beer Co.

Thirst for diverse, quality, and flavorful craft beer continues to expand the world-round. For more than a decade, the Brewers Association’s Export Development Program has assisted American craft breweries in identifying opportunities for international expansion and media promotion of American craft beer. As part of these efforts, facilitating U.S. brewery participation in overseas competitions continues to be a proven platform for brewers to not only compete on a global scale, but to create opportunities for increased brand recognition and familiarity overseas.
