International competitions serve as key platforms to raise awareness for American craft beer abroad and assist breweries with generating publicity for their brands in overseas markets. Export Development Program members are invited to submit entries for judging in the 2025 European Beer Star. Competition entry fees for up to three beers and a consolidated shipment to Germany will be covered for all Export Development Program Members.

EDP Members: Please read all details below before registering.

About the competition:
The European Beer Star Awards, one of the world’s most respected beer competitions, celebrates authentic and high-quality beers rooted in traditional European brewing techniques. This year marked the 21st edition of the competition, held in Nuremberg, Germany, in September 2024. The event saw 2,360 entries from over 550 breweries across 50 countries, with 68% of the entries coming from international brewers. The competition was judged by 140 experts from 32 countries. American craft brewers brought home 32 medals in 2024.

Event Participation Timeline:

  • April 1 – Competition registration opens.
  • June 20 – Deadline for EDP members to register their entries with both the European Beer Star competition and the EDP for shipment (separate registrations required). Note: While the official competition registration remains open until June 27, EDP members wishing to participate in the consolidated shipment must complete their EDP registration by June 20 to be included in the shipment to Germany.
  • July 1 – Consolidation deadline. EDP members may elect to ship to either the west or east consolidation points.
  • August 06-09 – Competition judging takes place.
  • September 17 – Awards ceremony during Drinktec.

Entries/Cost

The Brewers Association will cover the entry fees for up to three brands (bottles and cans only) per brewery, as well as the consolidated airfreight shipment and customs clearance, for members of the Export Development Program.

Breweries may submit more than three brands, but any additional submissions will incur a fee of €250 per brand, payable after the competition concludes.

Registration Instructions

EDP members must complete registration in two stages: first, by registering their entries with the competition for judging, and second, by submitting the form at the bottom of this page to participate in consolidated airfreight shipping to Germany. Failure to complete both registrations may result in exclusion from the shipment. Please carefully read and follow all the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Register your entries with the European Beer Star Competition by June 20.

  • Review the competition registration guidelines and category descriptions
  • Payment instructions for EDP Members: Following registration of all of your entries, use voucher code EDP@EBS2025! to receive 100% fee coverage. The voucher code field can be found on the top right of the Payment & Summary step. Breweries registering more than three entries will receive an invoice following the competition.

Step 2: Complete the EDP shipment registration form at the bottom of this page by June 20.

Step 3: Review competition requirements for entry quantities and competition labeling. EDP members involved in the consolidated shipment are not required to provide a commercial invoice with their shipment. The EDP Logistics Team will manage this on your behalf.

Step 4: Proceed to the Shipping Instructions below.

Shipping Instructions:

EDP members have a choice of one of two consolidation points on the east and west coast. Beer for the event must arrive at either consolidation warehouse no later than July 1, 2025. Beers that do not arrive on time or are not labeled properly are not guaranteed participation.
