In Hawaii, House Bill 108, which would have authorized direct-to-consumer shipping for beer and spirits both in and out of the Islands, moved swiftly through five committees across two chambers between March 18-21. The Hawaiian Craft Brewers Guild along with the BA put together a successful hill climb, speaking to chairs of relevant committees in the Senate, and had the opportunity to show up in force and testify on the bill as it moved through its second to last legislative obstacle. State Government Affairs Director Sam DeWitt flew to Honolulu to lead the charge and organize the climb and testimony, creating momentum and enthusiasm among leadership, and making it all the way to Senate Judiciary where the bill was deferred.
