A new holiday celebrating small and independent craft breweries begins the Sunday following Thanksgiving – Small Brewery Sunday. The December 1, 2019 celebration encourages beer lovers to support small and independent U.S. breweries and to seek the independent craft brewer seal.
Why is it important to visit craft breweries throughout the year? Every dollar a beer lover spends at a craft brewery fuels a small business that supports the economic health of its local community.
Aside from providing jobs and a space for community building, craft breweries also pass along their successes to thousands of nonprofits and charitable organizations. According to the Brewers Association (BA) benchmarking data, craft breweries gave an estimated $92.6 million to charitable organizations in 2018!
Breweries can encourage beer lovers to visit their tasting rooms by downloading the BA-provided Small Brewery Sunday creative assets and sharing on social media with the hashtags #SmallBrewerySunday and #SeekTheSeal. To spread awareness about the new holiday, breweries can also share posters advertising Small Brewery Sunday in their tasting rooms and other public spaces.
The Brewers Association encourages breweries to create their own marketing plan for Small Brewery Sunday by including data about charitable contributions and by offering tours for beer lovers on that Sunday. In a 2018 Nielsen survey, 30 percent of respondents listed “offer tours of a brewery” as a reason they had visited a brewery. That works out to 29.2 million visitors ready to be moved to celebrate small beer’s big impact on December 1.
