Special craft beer events will be open to the public throughout San Francisco
Boulder, CO • March 7, 2011—The 28th edition of the Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) and BrewExpo America® will take place in San Francisco the week of March 21, convening over 2,500 of the nation's most prominent craft brewers. Hosted by the Brewers Association, a not-for-profit trade association representing America's small and independent brewers, the annual conference and tradeshow will run from March 23-26, at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square.
This year will be the second time San Francisco has played host to the brewing industry, as the precursor to CBC was held here in 1989. Similarly, the city has a rich brewing history, with its first brewery opening in 1849. As seen in most areas of the country, San Francisco has enjoyed a recent resurgence of small, independent craft breweries, now with 13 brewing in the city proper, so attendees won't be hard-pressed to find flavorful beers around town.
The brewers may be greeted with foggy weather, but the industry has enjoyed its fair share of sunshine recently. Craft brewers' dollar sales were up 12 percent in the first half of 2010 and there are now over 1,700 breweries nationwide-nine percent more than last year and the largest number on record since 1905.
"San Francisco is the cradle of craft brewing and has grown to one of the top craft brewing cities in the nation," said Paul Gatza, Brewers Association director. "This is a fitting locale for our Craft Brewers Conference, and we're excited to experience the city's craft beer culture."
Conference attendance is restricted to registered brewing industry professionals, but a host of local events will be held in conjunction with CBC throughout the week. From collaboration beer dinners to special beer tastings and other fun events, San Francisco's craft beer lovers can view a full list on the CraftBeer.com calendar.
