The Michigan Brewers Guild was founded in 1997 and has been a driving force in developing the local craft brewing community. According to the guild, Michigan’s brewing industry contributes over $24 million in wages with an economic contribution of over $133 million. In terms of overall number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs, Michigan ranks 5th in the nation.
A major strategy in developing the guild itself is the annual Summer Beer Festival which began in 1998. Each year the festival generates revenue for the guild and promotes Michigan breweries to local craft beer enthusiasts. This year the two-day festival will showcase 60 Michigan craft breweries and 450-plus craft beers.
In additional to the festival, the guild will be celebrating its 15th anniversary by releasing a commemorative beer, brewed in collaboration by several local brewers. The 15th Anniversary Ale is a strong Pale Ale – more like a strong IPA or a Double IPA. These brews will be available at participating member breweries, as well as at the Summer Beer Festival.
The Brewers Association extends its congratulations to the Michigan Brewers Guild on their 15 years of promotion and protection of their craft beer industry.
