Seems the excitement over craft beer is not relegated to the public sector. Several instances have been reported on about members of Congress and the Senate taking advantage of recess in Washington to visit their local constituents, specifically, their local, small and independent craft brewers.

BrewersAssociation.org has reported on both Senators Wyden (OR) and Crapo of (ID) making stops at such craft brewers as Hopworks Organic Brewery (HUB), Ninkasi Brewing; in Oregon and Laughing Lab in Idaho as well as Pennsylvania Congressman Jim Gerlach touring the launch of a new expansion plan by Victory Brewing Co.

More recently, the Washington Beer Blog has reported that Washington state Congressman Rick Larsen visit to Bellingham, Washington’s Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen where he met with owners Will and Mari Kemper. Larsen, a member of the House Small Brewers Caucus listened to the Kempers on everything from beer production to challenges to small brewers. Will even shared with the Congressman how the current bill in Congress, HR4278, would benefit his brewery.

Pete Johnson of the Brewers Association expects more visits by legislatures to craft brewers before they return to DC. Word that visits by lawmakers to Birdsview Brewing Co in Concrete, WA as well as Devils Backbone Brewing in Roseland, VA was expected at the time of this piece.
