What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am a brewer at Freetail Brewing Co. in San Antonio, Texas.  I got started as a homebrewer and drinking lots of beer from Blue Star Brewing Co. in town. I was offered a bartending position and eventually worked my way into the brewery.

What’s new at Freetail?

Right now I’m focusing on expanding our barrel aging program and meeting Scott’s [owner Scott Metzger] expectations of having an IPA on tap at all times.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

The best part is that we really are like a family, all trying to do the best we can for the good of the industry.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

I’m also a glass blower (I made all of our pub’s tap handles) and skateboarding is fun.  I’m also known to waste hours on end jamming on my synthesizer at home.

What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?

Something hoppy with something spicy.  I’m not that picky (or that hungry).

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

My 12-year-old daughter, Daria.

What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

St. Bernardus Abt 12.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

I lived in a redwood tree in Arcadia, Calif. for a month, and the Humbolt Brewing Co. was on the way in to town. I’d always get a Cherry Oatmeal Stout on my way into town for breakfast.
