What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?
My current position is lead brewer at the Alchemist Cannery [in Waterbury, Vt.]. I got my start as an assistant brewer at the Shed restaurant and brewery.
What’s new at the Alchemist Cannery?
We are planning an expansion to double our production after the first of the year. Also adding the 7-barrel system from the pub in the future is going to be awesome.
What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?
Belonging to a group that is truly attempting to push the boundaries of what is known.
What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?
Spending time with my girlfriend and dog outdoors is paramount. Disc golf is also a huge passion.
What’s your favorite food and beer pairing?
Cheese and IPA, for sure. A nice dank, stinky cheese and a Heady Topper are perfect.
What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?
Moving to Vermont, buying my house, and meeting my girlfriend are what led me to enjoy my life in ways that I had previously not known.
What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?
It tends to change often with what I’m drinking at the time. Russian River’s sour beers rank high on my list.
What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?
Honestly, it was drinking a New Belgium beer after getting off the worst, bumpiest flight of my life in Denver. It calmed my nerves and got me back onto the plane to arrive at Telluride for an amazing time.
