Twenty individuals were in attendance for a meeting at the Louisville brewpub, Against the Grain Brewery. Brewery representatives from Alltech, Bluegrass Brewing Co (brewpub on Shelbyville Rd), Bluegrass Brewing Co (production brewery on E Main St.), West 6th, Country Boy Brewing, Beer Engine, and Lore Brewing converged together to meet with United States Senator Mitch McConnell. Adam Watson, owner of Against the Grain and president of the recently formed Kentucky Guild of Brewers, arranged for several brewery owners to present on their business and it’s contribution to the local economy.

Bob Pease, Brewers Association Chief Operating Officer, was in attendance and also spoke to the group about the BA’s efforts to reduce excise taxes for small breweries.

Mr. Pease stated, “I was privileged to be part of this meeting where the craft brewers of Kentucky and Senator McConnell discussed the challenges of running a small business, S. 534, and how this legislation would impact the small and independent breweries of Kentucky.”

Legislator visits to small breweries continue to be an important way for brewery owners to educate members of Congress on the impact their businesses have on local economies.
