Nebraska Guild Hits Refresh

On the eve of the 3rd Great Nebraska Beerfest, members of the Nebraska Craft Brewers Association (NCBA) came together to begin a new chapter. With the results of a recent election of association officers in hand, Paul and Kim Kavulak hosted a meeting of the NCBA at their brewpub, the Nebraska Brewing Company.

While Paul was re-elected to his position as President, some new blood was added to the ranks of association officers, including Jeremy Kirby of Gottberg Brew Pub who dove right in to his new responsibilities as Secretary. Other items on the agenda included a discussion of initiatives designed to bring the small brewing community of Nebraska closer, while at the same time reaping tangible benefits to association members. Topics included a cooperative effort with the state to institute a Nebraska Beer Trail program, investigating the possibility of holding a legislative beer tasting in the state capital to build relationships with elected officials and studying the accomplishments of the Nebraska wine industry to determine where issue synergies might exist for small brewers.

Paul also updated the group on efforts to secure Congressional support for H.R. 1236, the small brewer federal excise tax recalibration bill. Nebraska Brewing Company and Lucky Bucket Brewing Company have led these efforts, actively engaging all three House offices in Nebraska in the ongoing effort to get co-sponsorship commitments. Recently, success was achieved as local Congressman Lee Terry officially came on the bill. Zac Triemert, Jason Payne and Mike Cunningham of Lucky Bucket Brewing Company and Paul and Kim Kavulak of Nebraska Brewing Company are to be congratulated!

All in all, a very successful meeting and the foundation of an active, effective and successful guild is in place in the Cornhusker State.  On the following day, the Great Nebraska Beerfest kicked off just outside the doors of the Nebraska Brewing Company under the capable direction of Paul and Kim. With a portion of the proceeds from the festival going to the Nebraska Craft Brewers Association, all the pieces are in place and the future looks bright indeed!
