Support and development of State Brewers Guilds remains a major focus of the Brewers Association in 2011. The addition of Acacia Coast, the Brewers Association’s State Brewers Association Coordinator has helped the BA become more of a resource for existing and fledgling guilds. Acacia has been busy crisscrossing the country attending state brewers association meetings with many of them centered on initial guild formation.
Recently, Acacia provided an update on New Mexico’s guild.
New Mexico Momentum
After a quiet hiatus from the guild world, the New Mexico Association of Small Brewers is picking up energy again, placing it firmly back on the US guild map. The guild is reorganizing and currently positioning itself to positively shape the future of New Mexico’s craft beer.
After a couple of meetings to regroup, create buy-in, and flush out a steering committee, the guild is bringing its legal docs to order and they have announced the hire of an executive director. With Christopher Goblet now on board, the guild will have dedicated support hours, every week, towards advancing their goals.
Chris has an outstanding background perfectly matched to amplify the guild’s momentum. He has degrees in both Business and German, having lived, and learned to drink great beer, in Munich and London. He has been producing beer festivals in New Mexico for 6 years and also runs one of the largest farm markets in New Mexico. He loves local beer and local food. From Goblet: “The necessity for a strong Guild presence in New Mexico is a testament to the talent of our local brewers, the growth of the industry and the demand of an educated consumer base.”
After the new Board of Directors is elected, the guild is going to revamp their website, develop a NM beer trail map, work on a social media push, and start fundraising through festivals. With the progress the NM guild has already accomplished in such a short time, they are clearly preparing to join the roster of our nation’s greatest guilds. Keep up the momentum, and the great beer New Mexico! Cheers to your association’s success!
